Hello, My name is Charlotte, I’m 18 years old and I’m currently at harbour ridge yacht and country club in florida.
This is my first month in America and also my first time away from home! So my first blog post is really relating to that and how things are so different already and also about how big halloween is celebrated over here!
Being away from home has been quite a struggle for me to adjust to not having my mother around all the time is difficult but luckily I have the best roommates who are always there to cheer me up and remind me that being here is better than being back in rainy England.
America is amazing and so different to back home that some differences are still shocking me, one main difference is even though they speak english sometimes its like they are speaking a completely different language, with all the different words they use and especially when they use slang. So adjusting and learning new terms is always fun! Another main difference is how friendly people are here, you could walk down the street and meet 10 different people, I love how you can have friendly chats with the uber drivers and the cashiers where as back home we hardly ever spoke to taxi drivers and shop people.
Halloween over here is celebrated so much! All the decorations and costumes is amazing and so crazy! Even Harbour ridge had a halloween buffet where staff like me had to dress up! I love how celebrated it is, halloween has always been one of my favourite holidays and over here they really bring it to life!
Work life here is also amazing, in my one month here I have been trained to be a hostess which is the most fun job ever! I get to greet the members at the door and take them to tables and hand them the menu’s. I love the small conversations I have with them especially when they ask about me and where i’m from, all the members are lovely and genuinely interested and so many of them are already familiar with me and seeing them does put a genuine smile on my face and makes me feel very comfortable not awkward like I was on my first day! The shift pattern here is amazing and gives me plenty of time to work and explore the area which is amazing!
This is all I have to say for this blog post but thanks for taking the time to read it 🙂
